The return of the traditional Poetry Reading at APT. Poet, activist, and educator George Edward Tait, known as the Poet Laureate of Harlem, host an Open Mic series on the third Friday of every month, concluding June 20, 2008. During the Seventies, George Edward Tait, became one of the primary progenitors of poetry presentations by producing the legendary seven year series Black Words for a Wednesday Night for 360 continuous weeks. Baba Ola Jagun is a Nigerian drummer, vocalist born in Nigeria and trained in the heart of Yorubaland as a drummer and as a visual artist at Twin Seven-Seven’s Cultural Center in Oshogbo, Nigeria. Baba Ola Jagun, vocalist and Yoruba Spiritual Priest.who spent over ten years performing with the legendary AfroBeat creator, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti’s Egypt 80 band. notably gracing the ‘Beasts of No Nation’ LP with his hard groove. Imagery, Subject and Meter in Free Verse Poetry Américo Casiano Jr.

a 2003 New York Foundation for the Arts poetry fellow and one of the founding members of the Nuyorican poetry movement. He is works appear in five collections of poetry and numerous literary journals. His first book of poetry: On The Stand, iUniverse, was published in October 2007 and received Editor’s Choice designation.
Currently, he is the founder/President of NuyoRican School Poetry Jazz Ensemble, a performance ensemble focusing on presenting the literary works of Puerto Rican authors in the United States through performance. The ensemble has performed at venues throughout the tri-state. Among them, Aaron Davis Performing Arts Center, Hostos Center Art and Culture, the Nuyorican Poets Café, and the Julia De Burgos Latino Cultural Center.
Participants are asked to bring up to 5 poems not to exceed two pages in length to share with participants and for discussion. Poems maybe of any subject and should attempt to reflect the blending of imagery and meter.instructor at City College in the Black Studies Department Saturday, May 24 –
