The Afrikan Poetry Theatre is about to once again start a new and exciting season of bring to the community a grat ofering of cultural, educational and social activist programming. This October 2007 will mark 31 years of such offerings and we are excited about this very important milestone

Another level

We purchased the building which we have occupied for twenty six years, now we are in the process of implementing a construction plan to transform APT into a state of the arts cultural and educational center..

Take a Look at THE POWER OF THE WORD (APT Blog Site)

The Power of the Word grew out of what was a newsletter for The Afrikan Poetry Theatre. APT has a mailing list dating back 30+ years. Old and new associates we keep in touch with at this point. Blogging became an outgrowth of distributing a newsletter via print.  Blogging is timelier, being real-time. No waiting to put a newsletter together.
Why blog? Because it's our neighborhood, it's where we live. We create ourselves and we spend much of our time in some online mode. It's just an extension of who we are and how we spend our time.

membership We are asking you to be a part of building the new Center For Culture by becoming a member of APT at a minimum of $50 annually.

POWER QUOTE

"The Democratic Party is responsible for the racism that exists in this country, along with the Republican Party."

"...I hope that all of us can sit down with a cool head and a clear mind and analyze the situation, in the back room, anywhere, analyze the situation; and after we give the proper analysis of what we're confronted by, then let us be bold enough to take whatever steps that analysis says must be taken. Once we get it, then let's do it, and we'll be able to get some kind of result in this freedom struggle. "

WORD Page Life

Life is always changing and never stopping, there will be obstacles in your way, but you will have to overcome them. You can just stay stuck for the rest of your life until you are 81 and still be stuck, so you must never give up. Keep your head up and always strive to live, look forward and keep going till the end, for in the next life things may be easier. Although this life may not go as planed, do not be mad with the life you are living, don't quit because it's "Life" need it be good or bad, so just get use to it because it's "Life".

(WORD) RITE OF PASSAGE A rite of passage, which marks a time when a person reaches a new and significant change in his/her life, is something that nearly all societies recognize and often hold ceremonies for. These ceremonies are held to observe a person's entry into a new stage of life and can be anything from a high school graduation ceremony or a birthday party, to a funeral. Most rites help people to understand their new roles in society. They can also help others learn to treat people in new ways after they experience certain rites of passage.mauris.

YOUTH APTSYEP for over ten years have provided employment and educational structured programs. APTSYEP, from 1997 – 2007 for ten (10) years performed services as a project sponsor for the Summer Youth Employment Program. APTSYEP has for ten years developed and maintain a database of community worksites with the goal of placing youth in positive work settings which teaches them the importance of basic work skills, such as punctuality, proper dress, attendance, positive work attitudes, etc. while also offering them a chance to learn valuable work skills that they may use to find future employment. APTSYEP has developed a database of over 3000 youth that have registered or participated in past and current youth programs.
